In the lives of many psychology has become the Golden calf, which we believe, trust and accept as truth. Psychology in our time has become an idol. How often one can hear such an expression «EVEN psychologists confirm it». What nonsense! Even psychologists - they are ordinary people, and the psychology is simply a science. When psychologists have become for us, Christians, authority? Reading the Bible and meditating on His word, we are surprised by the fact that EVEN psychologists say the same thing that God! Hey, people of God, wake up!I have nothing against psychology as a science, but I am against psychology as an idol in Christian thought. Just as nothing against the calf as an animal – its meat is tasty!:) I think that this idol has come to us in the same way as to the Jews. I think that the root of the way is fear. And I do not mean the fear of God, but the usual - the human one. After all, Jews saw how great God is, they saw His mighty miracles. And I think that they were afraid of the living God, this God just did not fit into their thinking. The exact parallel is with us. It’s much easier for us to create an idol, which is always silent, does not go after us and see us in the bushes J. The truth is that all of us are the people of Israel, who fear God but can’t place Him in our thinking. But we don’t have to fear Him! Remember: "The Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend" (Exodus 33:11) Now follow a little bit my thoughts and I'll show you something. Ready?
- Lord-friend is Jesus and in the New Testament you’ll read it for many times.
- There is a proverb "You live and learn from those you live with" or "Tell me who your friends are and I'll tell you who you are"
- Also it is often said that we have the mind of Christ.
And when you combine these three ideas, you’ll see that Moses, talking with Christ had the same thoughts. His mind was transformed into the mind of Christ. He was not afraid of the Lord, because He knew who the real God is. Perhaps there in the desert, with a burning bush, he was scared, but when you make friends with Jesus even a little, everything falls in its place.
Here is one of the most popular passages from the Bible in which people often like to hang back on the psychology: "Love your neighbor as yourself." All the people I've heard referred to this verse as a "need to love yourself and then you'll know how to love others. Even the psychologists say you have to love yourself! ". Hey people, why do we need psychologists, if we have the mind of Christ? All we need is to upgrade mind through communication with Him.
Let me share how I understand this verse. I completely agree with the fact that firstly we need to know the love to ourselves, and then we will understand how to love our neighbors. I started to think what does it mean to love yourself? I came to the conclusion that I have nothing to love myself for. Everything that is good or pretty in me is created by God. Then I thought about my achievements, but here the arrow automatically moved to God. All my success is His gift to me. And no matter how I twist, everything leads to one that I have nothing to love myself for, but God has loved me with His great love. I am sure that when Jesus said that we should love ourselves, he knew that in such a way we’ll learn how the Father loves us. And only after we learn how our Father loves us we will know how to love others.
One day, Jake Hamilton (from Jesus Culture) said: "If a man says he loves you, but he does not know how God loves him - he's lying." Sad but true. If the foundation of love for others is based on the notion of "Oh, what I am!" it is a selfish love that loves only itself. But if the foundation of love for others is "Oh, what a wonderful God! How he loves! " such love will not be quenched by great water.
Unfortunately too often we try to know God through psychological, but in fact we need the Holy Spirit "For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God"
Psychology in our thinking is the golden calf. Psychology is a dead idol, he will not answer, will not hug, will not kiss, will not help, and moreover won’t give life filled with meaning. I love God!
